10 Native Delicacies You Should Try in Southern Leyte

Bibingka in Hanginan, Maasin City is one of the reasons why people from different places in Southern Leyte visit Hanginan. Hanginan is one of the famous  pilgrimage sight in Southern Leyte. One of the reason why it become famous because of it's delicious bibingka. This is traditionally made from galapong or rice flour, coconut milk, milk, and etc. And of course ! It was made with love and devotion of St. Francis Xavier that's why the delicacy taste like heaven.


Kilikin in Macrohon, Southern Leyte

If you are a fan of java or often called as kalibre or singapore, try Macrohon's Special Kilikin. It was made from smashed java, sugar, peanut, and milk. It will be wrapped in a banana leaf then steamed. What made it special in Macrohon is that they put fillings on it. The fillings are made of coconut flesh and it was caramelized so when you have a bite with it, surely it will make you crave for it everyday.



Dried Pusit in Limasawa, Southern Leyte

People who visited Limasawa Island usually buy Dried Pusit as a pasalubong. There are lot of squids in Limasawa Island. You can even buy fresh pusit and make dry pusit on your own. Dried pusit are good for breakfast and even lunch or dinner if you want to.


Hopia Malitboganon

When you think about delicacies in Malitbog, you will come up with their famous Hopia Malitboganon. It was made by the Jairus Bakery at Brgy. Taliwa, Malitbog, Southern Leyte. What makes it different from the others is that it was made very thin and longer and wider in size. It is very crispy and more delicious when you dip it with a hot choco or coffee.

Another sweet delicacy that Macrohon, Southern Leyte could offer is their special Buko Pie. This Buko Pie was totally different from other Buko Pie that you have tasted in your area. It has secret ingredient that makes it unique that when you take a first bite you can directly recognize that it is a product of Macrohon.

There are lots of its kind in different places in Southern Leyte but this Creamy Maja Blanca in Hinunangan has its signature taste that you cannot resist. It is perfect for dessert in any occasions.It also has various toppings either peanuts, cheese or sweet corn.

This delicious delicacy is perfect for heavy afternoon snack. It is more like a bread however it is not bake but deep fried and it was covered with sesame seeds that makes it crispy in mouth. You can find this delicacy anywhere in Southern Leyte but it is abundant in Maasin City.


Kutsinta

Kutsinta is a type of steamed rice cake. it is made from a mixture of rice flour, brown sugar and lye, enhanced with yellow food coloring or annatto extract, and stemed in small ramekins. the cooked cakes are topped with fresh grated meat from mature coconut. It is consumed year-round as a merienda or snack. It is frequently sold along with puto. Unlike its counterpart, which has a doughy texture, kutsinta has a jelly like, chewy consistency. It can be also enhanced by adding latik for a sweeter taste.  


Puto Cheese




Puto Cheese is a Filipino Steamed Cake which is so soft and fluffy. Easy to make and fun to eat. It is very delicious to eat especially when served together with dinuguan or pancit. It is usually served at breakfast or as snack and is often prepared for festive occasions such as Christmas and New Years. A variety of toppings are common for these rice cake. Some of those most frequent;y used toppings are cheese, grated coconut, and dried fruits.
